UT Characterization of Complex AM Microstructures of Titanium Alloys

This project aims to develop analytical and computational models to predict ultrasonic (UT) scattering from microstructures generated during metal additive manufacturing (AM). Utilizing statistical descriptors of titanium alloy microstructures from hybrid laser powder bed fusion AM, these models will be calibrated against UT scattering measurements. The focus lies in advancing understanding and predictive capabilities regarding the interactions of UT waves with complex AM-generated microstructures, facilitating improved non-destructive evaluation techniques for quality assurance in advanced manufacturing processes.
