Dr. Reza Zoughi’s Farwell Message

Author: susiem

This is a bittersweet moment for me to say goodbye to all my friends and colleagues at CNDE and ISU. I came to CNDE in 2019 because I genuinely believed it is a very special place. We just celebrated the 40th anniversary of CNDE, marking 40 years of innovation, research and educational achievements. A unique place that has lasted this long and still remains relevant to the communities it serves. CNDE is the “house” Don Thompson and Bruce Thompson built, and unsurprisingly, it is still going strong. What we do at CNDE positively impacts the greater society and enables safe operation of many critical structures and components!

To be successful “it takes a village!” Despite having to deal with significant and life-altering challenges beyond our control (e.g., Covid-19, national economic fluctuations, etc.), we at CNDE came together collectively and faced these adversities head-on and kept growing CNDE’s reputation and relevance for the NDE community.

CNDE is the confluence of highly-acclaimed and knowledgeable research staff, faculty members, postdocs, graduate and undergraduate students and scholars who come together to innovate, develop new technologies and impact NDE education (e.g., the unique NDE Minor Program). I feel extremely fortunate and proud to have had the opportunity to work with such wonderful people for the past 6+ years and learn from them.

I am joyfully thrilled to let everyone know, in case you did not know, that Professor Joe Turner, who currently serves as the Associate Director of CNDE will assume the Directorship position effective January 1, 2026.  Professor Turner has a wealth of experience both scientifically and administratively and is quite well-known and highly respected member of the NDE community. He will be a great mentor to his younger colleagues at CNDE and will certainly take CNDE to much greater heights.

Finally, I do not plan to walk away from the NDE community, with which I have been engaged for over 35 years. As the inaugural Chair of the ASNT Council of Fellows, I plan to remain engaged with the community and serve it and my colleagues in any way I can.  Looking forward to new opportunities and life fulfilling endeavors!
