IPRT’s Center for Nondestructive Evaluation remembered Dr. R. Bruce Thompson with a symposium on Nov. 3, 2011. Thompson, who passed away March 7, 2011, was CNDE director, a Distinguished Professor of Engineering at Iowa State, and member of the National Academy of Engineering. “As we approach the one-year mark of learning of Bruce’s cancer, it is fitting that we remember the many contributions that he made to the science and practice of nondestructive evaluation and to Iowa State University,” says Lisa Brasche, CNDE associate director.
Thompson’s colleagues, friends and family joined to remember his contributions and pay tribute to his accomplishments in research and education. A series of presentations highlighted Thompson’s advances in ultrasonics, reliability and inspection as well as his impact on the Ames Laboratory, the College of Engineering, and CNDE. Videos of the presentation may be viewed below.
In honor of Thompson’s commitment to education, his family has established a Graduate Fellowship, continuing his impact on future generations of NDE engineers and scientists.
