ABOUT THE BANNER

A stunning mural entitled "Fertile Fields of Technology" provides a warm welcome to visitors entering the Applied Sciences Complex II at Iowa State University.  This colorful piece of artwork is a gift from the Boeing Commercial Airplane Group to CNDE and ISU.  The 1992 gift was conceived by Jack McGuire and his colleague Robert Whealy, both of Boeing and both long-time supporters of ISU and CNDE, and was painted by Boeing artist Doug Kyes.  Kyes' oil-on-canvas portrays empirical examples of research tools, visual test data, advanced physics formulae, and an array of contemporary and futuristic product applications in transportation and fixed-structure engineering.  The painting depicts the significant role that Iowa State is playing in matching the developing technologies created in the laboratories to the practical needs of industry and the public.  This colorful montage of creative examples is contrasted by a panoramic backdrop of the Iowa countryside.  It exemplifies CNDE's and ISU's commitment to technology development and transfer - and to the State of Iowa.  The mural is shown in its entirety on the home page of the CNDE web site.
