Dave Utrata is Program
Manager for the NDE Group of IPRT's Company Assistance. He received a
Master of Science Degree in Metallurgical Engineering at the
Illinois Institute of Technology in 1981. Prior to joining the
Center for NDE he served as Senior Research Engineer at the
Association of American Railroads, Chicago Technical Center and was
a Visiting Scientist with NASA Langley Research Center, Hampton, VA
working to transfer NDE technology to the railroad industry.
Research interests have
included: the nondestructive measurement of residual and applied
stresses, via ultrasonic and magnetic methods; correlation of
mechanical properties of materials with nondestructive and
destructive test measurements; development of test procedures to
evaluate railroad component integrity; and a variety of outreach
interactions performed with industrial clients throughout the
Midwest.
