Ronald A. Roberts holds
positions of Scientist in the Center for NDE, and Adjunct Associate
Professor in the Aeronautical Engineering and Engineering Mechanics
department, at Iowa State University. He received the B.S. in
Physics from Purdue University (1979), and M.S. and Ph.D. in
Theoretical and Applied Mechanics from Northwestern University (1981
and 1984, respectively). His research addresses computational wave
scattering for NDE applications, experimental ultrasonics for
quantitative imaging, and computed tomographic image construction
for ultrasonic and X-ray applications. His current projects include
ultrasonic transmission in complex geometry components, acoustic
microscopy for surface cracks in curved component surfaces,
subsurface image construction with diffracting wavefields, and
limited data X-ray tomography. Prior to joining Iowa State in 1989,
he worked on the development of advanced NDE techniques for ceramic
and composite materials in the Materials and Components Technology
Division of Argonne National Laboratory. He has authored more than
30 technical publication.
