Brian Larson is an Associate
Scientist/Metallurgical Engineer for the Center for Nondestructive
Evaluation at Iowa State University. He is the Program Manager of
the Collaboration for NDE Education, a partnership between ISU and
community colleges aimed at improving NDE technical education. He
also currently supports a number of research efforts primarily
focused on using eddy current techniques to detect defects in
industrial components. Additionally, he has experience with visual,
liquid penetrant, magnetic particle, and ultrasonic inspection from
previous research projects and from leading CNDE’s industrial
outreach efforts for over ten years. He has extensive experience
working with industry to address, inspection, measurement, and
process improvement issues. His contributions towards improving
florescent penetrant inspection practices in the aerospace industry
were recognized with the 2004 Better Way Award from the Air
Transport Association and FAA. Prior to joining CNDE in 1993, he
was Manager of the Material an Process Engineering Labs at McDonnell
Douglas Aircraft Company in Long Beach, California. He received a
B.S. degree in Metallurgical Engineering from Iowa State University
in 1984.
