Joseph N. Gray is a
Physicist in the Center for Nondestructive Evaluation and an Adjunct
Associate Professor of Mechanical Engineering at Iowa State
University. He has been with the Center for NDE since 1986. Dr.
Gray received a Ph.D. in Physics from The University of Michigan
(1985), a M.S. in Physics (1980) from the Pennsylvania State
University, and a B.A. (1977) in both Physics and Mathematics from
The University of Colorado. His major research interests are in
X-ray techniques. The emphasis of his work in this area is in the
development of computer modeling of X-ray inspectability, XRSIM and
CTSIM development of energy sensitive measurements, real time
inspections methods, new X-ray detectors, and image processing
techniques. Dr. Gray has co-authored 74 technical
publications in the area of X-ray and neutron NDE techniques.
Additional areas of activity include the development of high
resolution 3D computed tomography and the 3D visualization tools,
high energy x-ray diffraction and refraction techniques for material
characterization.
