Vinay Dayal is Associate
Professor of Aerospace Engineering and Faculty Associate in the
Center for Nondestructive Evaluation at Iowa State University. He
received his B. Tech. in Aeronautics from Indian Institute of
Technology, Kanpur, India (1972), M.S. in Engineering Mechanics from
University of Missouri-Rolla (1982), and Ph.D. in Aerospace
Engineering from Texas A&M University (1987). He has been teaching
and conducing research at ISU since January, 1989. Prior to that he
was a researcher and teacher at North Carolina A&T State University
of Greensboro. He was a Scientist at Aeronautical Development
Establishment, Bangalore, India (1972-1982) and worked in the field
of experimental and theoretical stress analysis of aerospace
structures. He has extensive experience in photoelasticity, Moire,
holography, and strain gaging.
Dayal’s current research
interests are in nondestructive evaluation and wave propagation in
composite materials; design, fabrication and testing of composite
structures and optical fiber embedded “smart” composite structures.
