Dale Chimenti holds joint
positions of senior scientist in the NDE Center and Professor in
Aerospace Engineering. Dr. Chimenti earned the Ph.D. and M.S. in
Physics at Cornell University and a BA (Magna cum Laude) from
Cornell College. He has done research on transport properties of
metals, and has worked for two years on an Alexander von Humboldt
Fellowship at the University of Tuebingen, Germany investigating
current-induced resistance in superconductors. At the Air Force
Materials Lab in Dayton, Dr. Chimenti performed in-house research
and managed the Air Force’s Advanced NDE Technology Program for
eight years. He also chaired the international TTCP (DoD) Panel on
NDE from 1986 to 1989. In 1989 he became Research Professor in
Materials Science and Engineering and Associate Director of the
Center for NDE at the Johns Hopkins University. In 1993 he moved to
Iowa State. Dr. Chimenti has published over 75 journal articles in
the research literature and serves as co-editor of the Review of
Progress in QNDE, now in its 27th edition. Since 1996, he has been
editor-in-chief of NDT&E International and was an associate editor
of the Journal of the Acoustical Society of America for six years.
He is a member of the American Academy of Mechanics and a fellow of
the Acoustical Society of America. Dr Chimenti was awarded the 2007
David R Boylan Emminent Faculty Research Award by the Iowa State
Univ College of Engineering.
