LATHAM CONGRATULATES IOWA STATE UNIVERSITY

ON $6.5 MILLION AIR FORCE RESEARCH CONTRACT

WASHINGTON, DC - Iowa Congressman Tom Latham congratulated Iowa State University for securing a $6.5 million research contract with the United States Air Force being announced today.

"This contract reaffirms the belief that when it comes to technology and research capabilities, Iowa State University leads the nation," said Latham.

The contract, which is with ISU's Center for Nondestructive Evaluation (CNDE), is for research of evaluation techniques for assessing structural capabilities of aging of military aircraft.

Latham has obtained $6.1 million dollars in funding for ISU over the past two years for similar aircraft aging studies for the Air Force.  The initial funding was secured through Latham's seat on the House Appropriations Committee.

"The quality of Iowa State's previous work in this area of vital importance to our national and homeland security no doubt influenced the awarding of this important project by the Air Force.  All Iowans should be proud of the effective and important work being done throughout the University."
